Description

CrownSaver is the original crown repair product, developed in the early 80's. It has been time tested and is still preferred by many sweeps. CrownSaver is a blend of polymer modified hydraulic cements and powdered water repellent. Simply mix one scoop CrownSaver (measuring scoop included) with three scoops fine mason's sand and water. Next, trowel over the crown at about 1/2" thickness (1/3" min.-2" max). Because CrownSaver is a cement-based coating, a 1/2" bead of caulk should be applied to the base of each flue tile to allow for expansion. CrownSaver is sold in a 30 lb. container. One pail covers about 30 sq. ft at 1/2" thickness, when properly mixed - about 3 to 5 average chimney crowns. CrownSaver can be used alone or with the FormFoil. No forms are needed and CrownSaver sets up in just two hours. Since the waterproofing elements are contained in the coating, no need to apply waterproofing. You also get a 10 year warranty against cracks caused by shrinkage.

It was easy to mix and apply, and seemed firm ans solid when it hardened. I did not use the foil under layer the manufacturer mentions as desirable, but did use the recommended silicone caulk along the brickwork as an expansion joint. My cap was not in terrible shape, but had several cracks. Now only time will tell how long this repair lasts! Not exactly what i wanted.... needed a brushable ready to use mix... i can buy the same material in a 40lb bag from HD for $10!Lesson learned
